About the Role
This full-time staff role focuses on soccer, global sports, tennis, F1, and North American sports. The ideal candidate will have a news-driven outlook, experience in copy-editing and sub-editing across key sports, and comfort editing in both UK and U.S. English. Responsibilities include identifying and commissioning writers, collaborating with news and live teams, and publishing engaging content. This role operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring three days per week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Manage a small team of reporters with an emphasis on the delivery of news, features, and enterprise.
- Assist in generating and planning story ideas across soccer/football, particularly around key sporting events.
- Maintain proficiency and knowledge for SEO best practices.
- Edit and publish stories via WordPress.
- Collaborate with social and programming teams to maximize audience reach.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in digital sports journalism.
- Advanced ability to generate story ideas that result in solid engagement.
- Ability to work effectively with writers to strengthen ideas and develop them into broader packages.
- Advanced understanding of copy editing, story structure, identifying problematic sentences, and style guidelines.
- Ability to add context to stories, edit in the writer's voice, ensure fairness, and provide story structure.
- High-level knowledge of football/soccer and other sports.
- Willingness to work weekends, early mornings, and evenings as required by the sporting calendar.
