About the Role

Westminster City Council seeks dedicated Home Enablement Specialists for flexible, as-needed work. This role involves assisting vulnerable residents by ensuring their homes are safe, clean, and livable through specialized cleaning and decontamination for issues like hoarding, infestations, biohazards, and hazardous waste. Collaboration with Housing, Social Care, Environmental Health, and partner agencies is key to helping individuals maintain safety and independence.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct specialized deep cleaning and decontamination in residential properties.
  • Assist residents in environments impacted by hoarding, infestations, biohazards, hazardous waste, and severe environmental neglect.
  • Safely remove, handle, and dispose of waste in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Operate specialized cleaning equipment and PPE safely and efficiently.
  • Keep accurate records of completed tasks and identified risks.
  • Collaborate with Housing Officers, Social Workers, Environmental Health Teams, and Partner Agencies.
  • Identify and report any safeguarding concerns and health & safety risks.
  • Deliver a respectful, non-judgemental, and person-centred service consistently.
  • Engage in training and continuous professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Experience in specialist, industrial, environmental, or biohazard cleaning environments.
  • Experience performing deep cleans in challenging settings such as hoarded properties, infested properties, and hazardous environments.
  • Strong knowledge of COSHH Regulations, Health & Safety, PPE Use, and Waste Disposal Procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable individuals in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic IT skills for record keeping and reporting.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
