About the Role
Varick is seeking an engineer to build the product customers use to interact with AI agents, focusing on creating a useful, clear, and reliable user experience. This role involves working directly with customers to understand their needs and improve their daily workflows.
Responsibilities
- Build the product interface, APIs, and application logic for customer interaction with AI agents.
- Develop features for managing work, including exception queues, reconciliation reviews, approval flows, and financial reports.
- Enhance clarity on agent actions, required attention, and intervention capabilities.
- Improve the understandability of decisions by enabling users to trace results back to underlying data and actions.
- Develop APIs that provide necessary information to the interface and handle workflow status.
- Improve the agent SDK by building tools and abstractions for other engineers.
- Identify and consolidate common customer needs into product features.
- Own product details such as loading states, error messages, responsiveness, and handling unexpected usage.
Requirements
- Shipped software and learned from user feedback.
- Comfortable working across frontend and backend.
- Ability to make design decisions, explain reasoning, and adapt based on new information.
- Experience with React, Node, real-time interfaces, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated engineering judgment, attention to detail, and willingness to tackle unfamiliar problems.
- Owned a production system that others depended on and managed it during failures.
- Keeps up with technology out of genuine interest.
- Formed opinions on tools through usage and adapted workflows accordingly.
- Successfully changed technical decisions with evidence and been open to having one's own mind changed.
- Ability to delve into technical problems while assessing their overall importance.
- Willingness to show up to meetings with an opinion, share learnings, and collaborate on problem-solving.
- Commitment to hard work, with an understanding of when extra hours may be necessary.
