About the Role
Varick helps companies doing billions in revenue transform how they operate with AI by building and deploying agent systems that handle entire process chains. We are looking for an engineer who cares about getting the foundational infrastructure right.
Responsibilities
- Own the infrastructure that lets engineers build, deploy, and operate agents across customer environments.
- Work closely with engineers to understand their challenges and build tools to make their work easier.
- Make workflows reliable through scheduling, retries, checkpointing, and recovery.
- Streamline deployment processes, including CI/CD, customer environments, secrets, and access controls.
- Ensure the data layer functions effectively as the company grows, focusing on schema design and query performance.
- Develop logging and tracing systems to track runs across agents and external systems for failure investigation and customer inquiries.
- Manage integrations with unreliable external systems like NetSuite, Oracle, and Salesforce, accounting for their limitations.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and implement fixes to prevent recurring issues.
- Decide on the necessity of shared solutions, simplification, and prioritization of new features.
Requirements
- Experience operating software that other people depended on.
- Experience investigating production failures with incomplete information.
- Experience making careful fixes and addressing underlying problems.
- Understanding of databases, distributed systems, and production operations.
- Judgment about the appropriate level of complexity for a problem.
- Experience owning something in production that others depended on and handling its failures.
- Keeps up with technology, tries new tools, forms opinions, and rethinks workflows.
- Ability to change technical decisions with evidence and be open to having one's own mind changed.
- Ability to get deep into a technical problem and assess its priority.
- Ability to share learnings and whiteboard problems.
- Willingness to commit and move on to the next problem.
- Willingness to put in extra hours, including weekends, when necessary.
- Ability to demonstrate how you think and build through a repo, a shipped project, or a description of owned systems.
- Experience working through a difficult infrastructure problem and the decisions made.
