About the Role

The Senior Product Manager, PPG Planning is responsible for the product strategy, roadmap, and delivery of New York Life's next generation financial planning tool and experience, built to bring the Company's Protection Powered Growth (PPG) strategy to life for agents, advisors, and clients. This role owns the end-to-end transformation of the Planning capability, setting the vision and required changes across process, people, technology, data, and AI.

Responsibilities

  • Translate the Protection Powered Growth (PPG) strategy into a prioritized set of product capabilities and features.
  • Continuously evaluate market trends, competitor planning tools, and emerging AI capabilities to inform the product roadmap.
  • Own the path from implementation through readiness, adoption, behavior change, and sustained value realization.
  • Apply financial engineering domain expertise to define planning calculations, modeling logic, and assumptions.
  • Partner with Actuarial and quantitative teams to validate the accuracy, soundness, and defensibility of planning models.
  • Translate complex financial planning and insurance concepts into intuitive, well-designed product experiences.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to apply AI and advanced analytics to improve planning accuracy, personalization, and efficiency.
  • Partner with Technology, Data, and AI teams to design, test, and deploy AI-enabled features responsibly.
  • Define success metrics for AI-enabled features and iterate based on performance and user feedback.
  • Partner with Nautilus, the Advanced Planning Group (APG), and Financial Planning support teams to gather feedback, define requirements, and test features.
  • Partner with Field Learning and Development to design, build, and enable education and learning delivery.
  • Partner with adjacent value-streams, our Chief Transformation Office, and our Experience and Digital Marketing teams to deliver seamless UX.
  • Serve as the primary product point of contact for Distribution, Technology, Actuarial, Legal, and Compliance stakeholders on planning-tool initiatives.
  • Represent and focus the voice of the agent/advisor and the client in product decisions.
  • Own the product backlog, write clear requirements and user stories, and prioritize the roadmap in partnership with Engineering.
  • Lead the product through the full development lifecycle, from discovery and design through launch and post-launch iteration.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Risk to ensure the planning tool's outputs, disclosures, and recommendations meet regulatory and suitability requirements.
  • Ensure financial engineering assumptions and calculation logic are well-documented and auditable.
  • Manage strategic partnership with third party FinTech companies to inform and expand Planning capabilities.
  • Build and lead a high-performing product team, including product managers and/or product owners.
  • Foster a collaborative, data-driven product culture in partnership with all departments and partners.
  • Create clarity, accountability, and momentum across organizational boundaries.
  • Manage the performance of the overall capability against business, operational, financial, and adoption outcomes.
  • Partner with Experience Research and Advanced Planning teams to consistently benchmark the capability.
  • Define and track key product metrics, including adoption, usage, and planning outcomes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including experience building or managing complex, calculation-intensive, or highly regulated products.
  • 5+ years of financial engineering domain experience — quantitative finance, financial planning methodology, actuarial science, or similar — strongly required.
  • Experience building or managing AI-enabled or data-intensive product features.
  • Experience partnering with distribution, sales, or field-facing organizations to gather requirements and drive adoption preferred.
  • Experience within financial services, insurance, wealth management, or fintech preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Agile and Decision product delivery methodologies.

  • Translates complex financial engineering and planning concepts into clear, well-scoped product requirements.
  • Balances technical rigor, user experience, and delivery speed when making product trade-offs.
  • Identifies practical, responsible opportunities to apply AI and advanced analytics to improve the planning experience.
  • Stays current on emerging planning technology, fintech, and AI capabilities relevant to financial planning.
  • Builds trusted working relationships across field-facing planning teams, Technology, Actuarial, Legal, and Compliance.
  • Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Drives product initiatives from concept through launch with discipline and attention to detail.
  • Uses data and user feedback to iterate and continuously improve the product.

Salary/Compensations

  • $180,000 - $235,000
