About the Role
Orchard is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join its Legal & Regulatory team. This role will partner with cross-functional teams to develop product offerings, expand into new jurisdictions, and mature business lines, balancing business objectives with legal risk in highly-regulated sectors. The position offers significant opportunities for growth and leadership as the company expands.
Responsibilities
- Act as a legal swiss-army knife, working independently across several different legal practice areas, with a focus on commercial and regulatory issues and building out Orchard’s products and services in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks governing residential real estate.
- Act as the go-to person for Orchard’s commercial partnerships, driving deals from inception to execution.
- Assist the mortgage company in building out product and service offerings, policies, controls, and structure for compliance with federal and state legal frameworks, and lead expansion into additional states.
- Work with title companies to innovate, streamline services, and enhance customer delight while maintaining compliance with state laws and regulations.
- Partner with Product & Engineering Teams to design and iterate product and service delivery, balancing innovation and growth with legal and regulatory risk.
- Engage with and build relationships with state regulators for business expansion, operational compliance, and inquiries or examinations.
- Manage outside law firms across various practice areas, balancing cost and effectiveness.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of Data Privacy and Information Security policies, practices, and procedures.
- Potentially be involved in equity and debt financings with venture capital and traditional capital providers.
Requirements
- Broad-based attorney with at least 7 years of experience in commercial and/or regulatory space, gained through law firm and in-house roles.
- Solid experience with commercial contracts, including negotiation and regulatory review, and leading negotiations with large companies.
- Experience navigating the application of evolving and sometimes overlapping regulations in a business context.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, using good judgment and escalating issues when necessary.
- Demonstrated drive for results, work ethic, and ability to prioritize risks and projects.
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent planning and organization skills.
- State bar admission in good standing.
