About the Role

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services (AAMHCS) is a Community Health Centre focused on improving health outcomes for vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities by providing services and addressing systemic inequities. This role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating settlement, integration, and community engagement programs with an anti-oppression health promotion focus, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and with external partners to address social determinants of health.

Responsibilities

  • Work with marginalized community members to identify health priorities and plan/implement strategies for better community health.
  • Identify newcomer settlement and integration needs, strengthen programming, and develop service/referral pathways for social determinants of health.
  • Utilize diverse community engagement, capacity building, and outreach strategies.
  • Act as a resource for community groups by facilitating workshops, providing consultation, referrals, information, and advocacy.
  • Mobilize community resources to enhance capacity for social change through self-help networks, coalitions, and grassroots leadership.
  • Maintain familiarity with community services and programs, sharing information with the team and developing/maintaining information resources.
  • Develop community-based projects using a project management approach, responsive to needs and strategic directions.
  • Generate stakeholder ownership in project planning, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Lead project implementation, including budget development, activity management, and supervision of project staff.
  • Oversee effective delivery of project activities.
  • Provide guidance and direction to students, volunteers, and project staff using a shared leadership approach.
  • Evaluate programs to ensure objectives are met and recommend operational changes based on community input.
  • Initiate, carry out, participate in, or monitor community-involved research on health needs.
  • Develop clear plans and positions from research for program and advocacy efforts.
  • Initiate links with stakeholders to promote the Centre as a learning site, collaborating with institutions like the University of Toronto.
  • Participate in committees, work groups, and projects, chairing meetings or taking minutes as required.
  • Identify the need for or participate in the development of policies and protocols, and adhere to all Centre policies.
  • Develop an annual work plan with supervisor input, identifying action plans, learning goals, and professional development needs.
  • Submit program statistics and reports on a timely basis.
  • Participate in the development of funding proposals.
  • Contribute to the vision, mission, values, principles, and strategic directions of the Centre.
  • Carry out other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Health Sciences, Social Work, Immigration and Settlement Services or related field, or a combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of front-line experience in community engagement-based program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Thorough understanding of community engagement and supporter development principles.
  • Experience working with low-income and other priority groups.
  • Experience working with multi-racial, multi-lingual communities and teams.
  • Success in partnership development and funding proposal writing.
  • Experience managing project budgets.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to speak fluently in a language of one of the priority groups served (Arabic, Tigrinya, Dari/Pashto, Bengali or other languages).
  • Prior involvement in community-based research.
  • Experience mentoring staff, students, or volunteers.
  • Must be fully vaccinated.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted.
