About the Role
We are seeking our first AI Engineer to develop internal systems that enhance the operational leverage of our small team. You will collaborate across departments, identifying high-impact problems and creating tools for daily use. This role offers significant ownership, allowing you to define technical standards, select the technology stack, and prioritize development efforts. The position emphasizes practical problem-solving over the use of the latest APIs, with a direct path from concept to production. You will also engage with portfolio companies to assist founders with AI features and technical strategies.
Responsibilities
- Build internal AI systems to support investing, talent, platform, founder services, finance, and operations.
- Design, build, and ship tools for daily use across the firm.
- Set technical standards and choose the technology stack.
- Collaborate with the Talent Partner to develop systems for identifying, enriching, and ranking talent.
- Create tools to identify promising companies and founders early.
- Develop research assistants that leverage firm data for partner preparation.
- Streamline diligence processes such as market mapping, competitive analysis, and customer call synthesis.
- Make firm knowledge searchable and accessible.
- Automate operations for portfolio reporting, LP updates, and back-office processes.
- Develop reusable AI playbooks and tools for the founder services team.
- Assist portfolio companies with scoping AI features and pressure-testing technical approaches.
- Work closely with users to understand needs and iterate on solutions.
Requirements
- 3–6 years of software engineering experience.
- 1–2 years of experience shipping LLM-powered products or internal tools to production.
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong Python skills (TypeScript is a plus).
- Comfortable working across the full stack, including data pipelines, APIs, and front-end development.
- Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, retrieval, agents/tool use, and evaluation.
- Demonstrated product taste, including user interaction, problem identification, and iterative development.
- Experience working with real-world data sources such as CRMs, email, and calendars.
- Clear communication skills to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-directed with the ability to set priorities with minimal guidance.
