About the Role
This position will be responsible for handling day-to-day operations focusing on employee relations, disability management, occupational health and safety, labor relations, orientation, and training. The role aims to create an environment that is safe, fun, and full of learning opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Provides HR leadership and advice to managers, including guidance on conflict resolution, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
- Identifies internal and external employment issues and trends, recommending improvements, efficiencies, and training opportunities.
- Oversees programs such as orientation, training, attendance management, health, safety & wellness, and rewards and recognition.
- Delivers and supports ongoing training and development for managers and team members to cultivate culture and create memorable experiences.
- Develops and implements HR strategic plans, ensuring site operations align with company objectives.
- Partners with management to improve the culture of attendance and performance while ensuring exceptional guest service.
- Fosters a safe workplace by taking proactive steps to minimize accidents and increase wellness.
- Liaises and communicates effectively with all appropriate operational departments.
- Develops and cultivates strong working relationships with all stakeholders, including guests, partners, team members, unions, vendors, and regulators.
- Assists and advises Managers with respect to policies and collective agreement application and interpretation.
- Focuses on rapport-building with the Union to improve communication and reduce grievances.
- Researches and prepares confidential Labour Relations reports and surveys relating to negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations.
- Provides support, resources, and participates on the Casino’s bargaining and Labour-Management committees.
- Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety, and other statutory regulations.
- Performs other reasonable additional duties as required/assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of working experience in Human Resources, with specific experience in labor relations required.
- Knowledge of Ontario employment standards and human rights legislation.
- Strong computer skills working with MS Office programs.
- Ability to deliver excellent guest service at all levels of the organization and externally.
- Possess strong organizational, presentation, time management, and project management skills.
- Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Listens thoroughly to issues and responds appropriately; demonstrates assertiveness when appropriate.
- Experience managing disability management files and assisting with coordinating gradual return to work programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Maintains and exercises a high degree of discretion and confidentiality in giving out information.
- Potential and interest in doing HR generalist work.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal record and credit check through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
