About the Role
Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II to perform certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, and light repairs on trailers and equipment at customer sites. This role involves diagnosing and repairing various trailer systems, documenting work, and managing parts inventory. The technician will work independently and may assist senior technicians with advanced repairs, contributing to the company's growth in fleet maintenance services.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on hydraulic systems, electrical components, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
- Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Apply acquired knowledge to perform job duties and evaluate technical information.
- Effectively communicate with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, and keep commitments.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) and DOT inspections in a mobile/field environment.
- Respond to dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO notes.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Participate and complete all company-required safety training.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain company-issued service truck, conducting safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.
- Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
- Remain up to date on safety protocols and procedures.
- Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various trailer equipment and systems, including brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, panel replacement, body, and framework.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
- Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field (Trailers).
- Alternative: Any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline.
- Alternative: 5 years of experience in a related field.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a single-tech/dedicated environment.
- Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
- Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Candidate must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.
- Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship.
- No OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT or visa sponsorship now or in future.
