About the Role
The Technical Design & Documentation Specialist is responsible for creating, organizing, maintaining, and controlling digital drawing assets for the company's equipment, components, facilities, and real estate portfolio. This role transforms knowledge of physical assets into an accurate, organized, and reusable digital asset library by working with various file types and input from technical resources. The specialist will collaborate with internal and external teams, own the technical drawing assets, and help evaluate CAD and drawing management tools.
Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for equipment, components, assemblies, storage systems, facilities, and related assets.
- Create accurate digital models and drawings from physical components, field measurements, STEP files, existing drawings, sketches, and supplier information.
- Develop and maintain reusable component libraries, standard assemblies, rack configurations, and drawing templates.
- Support the documentation and ongoing development of robotic shuttle systems, Vertical Transfer Units (VTUs), storage racking, and future automation equipment.
- Create and maintain project-specific equipment, rack, and system layouts using standardized digital components and assemblies.
- Establish and maintain standards for drawing numbers, naming conventions, file organization, revision control, drawing status, approvals, and archival.
- Maintain logical relationships between products, assemblies, components, models, drawings, specifications, and revisions.
- Organize and maintain the company's real estate drawing library, including architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, interior, construction, and as-built documentation.
- Work with engineers, architects, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and internal personnel to incorporate new and revised drawings into controlled digital records.
- Support basic design evaluation using CAD and related tools, coordinating with engineering resources when specialized analysis or certification is required.
- Evaluate and recommend CAD, drawing/document management, and related technologies appropriate for the company’s equipment, manufacturing, and real estate needs.
- Continually improve the accuracy, organization, accessibility, standardization, and reuse of the company's technical drawing assets.
Requirements
- Ability to create accurate drawings and models from existing physical components, measurements, sketches, and other source information.
- Working knowledge of technical drawing practices, dimensioning, tolerancing, materials, manufacturing processes, assemblies, and component relationships.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an engineering mindset with the ability to understand how physical components fit, function, and are manufactured.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, construction, and facility drawings.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently take ownership of technical drawing and documentation initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of internal and external technical professionals.
- Ability to work for extended periods at a computer workstation using CAD and technical documentation software.
- Ability to access warehouse, equipment, construction, and facility areas to inspect, measure, and document physical assets.
- Ability to use common measuring and inspection tools and occasionally lift or position components weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach while collecting field measurements and technical information.
- Ability to safely work in active warehouse, industrial, and construction environments and travel occasionally to company facilities, project sites, or manufacturers as required.
