About the Role

Hudson Valley Community College is seeking an experienced Coordinator for International Student Affairs to join the Office of International Student Affairs. This role is crucial for supporting international students, ensuring compliance with immigration laws, and serving as a liaison between students and various governmental and campus entities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Primary Designated School Official, maintaining F-1 Student Records for regulatory compliance in SEVIS.
  • Act as campus liaison to the Department of Homeland Security, Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
  • Provide guidance to International Students on maintaining lawful Immigration Status.
  • Oversee the admissions process for prospective International Students with the Admissions Office.
  • Advise the Admissions Office on credential evaluation and international status concerns.
  • Provide updates to the Office of Communications for the International Student Web Pages.
  • Assist International Students with applications for immigration benefits and related processes.
  • Assist International Students with adjustment and success issues, making appropriate referrals.
  • Issue Invitation Letters for Family Members of Foreign-Born Students and 'Specialized Letters'.
  • Maintain student records, databases, admissions processing, and administrative tasks.
  • Serve as liaison and mediator for International Students with campus personnel, community members, and other institutions.
  • Administer the International Student Accident and Illness Insurance Plan.
  • Serve as the SUNY J-1 Consortium Exchange Visitor Advisor.
  • Plan and implement student programming activities, including International Student Orientation.
  • Interview and track the admissions process of prospective International Students.
  • Assist with Global Initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain the college’s network of global connections and partners.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university, or an Associate Degree with three years of relevant experience.
  • Three years of experience in international student affairs at a public and/or private post-secondary institution.
  • Proficiency in all U. S. Immigration Laws and Regulations and Procedures concerning F-1, M-1 and J-1 status.
  • Excellent written, oral, and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity to work with individuals of diverse languages, cultures, and ethnic groups.
  • Must be either a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident to be a Designated School Official.
  • Must provide documentation proving eligibility (U.S. passport, U.S. civil-issued birth certificate, alien registration card, naturalization or citizenship certificate).
