About the Role
This role sits at the center of what Atlas is building: extending real, usable credit to people the traditional system turns away, without loosening the discipline that keeps that credit sound. The credit book is one of the company's most closely watched surfaces, and this role owns the view of it. Delinquency, loss, exposure, and policy performance, that the founders and credit engineering rely on to know how the book is doing and what should change. It's a newly created role with real latitude to define how credit performance gets measured at Atlas, working directly alongside the engineers building the underwriting models rather than downstream of them.
Responsibilities
- Own portfolio performance, including delinquency and loss curves, vintages, roll rates, and performance by segment.
- Identify and explain the drivers of credit performance issues.
- Track credit limit history, line increases, and unsecured exposure growth.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of limit strategies and recommend adjustments.
- Assess cutoffs, eligibility rules, and limit assignment for credit policy.
- Quantify the impact of policy changes on approvals, losses, and exposure.
- Define metrics for credit performance, including bad definitions, performance windows, and evaluation sets.
- Collaborate with credit engineering on models, analyzing segment performance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Translate analytical findings into specific requirements for features, data sources, or signals.
- Assist in designing tests to evaluate the effectiveness of model changes.
- Monitor the production performance of models and policies, including calibration, drift, and stability.
- Develop recurring credit reports for company-wide use.
- Contribute to fair lending testing, adverse action reason quality, and credit documentation for compliance.
Requirements
- 3+ years in credit risk, credit strategy, underwriting analytics, or a closely related analytical role.
- Strong analysts from adjacent fields (quant finance, fraud, insurance, economics) who can learn credit fast are welcome.
- Solid credit intuition, or a clear ability to build it quickly.
- Strong SQL and Python skills, with self-sufficiency in BigQuery.
- Active use of AI tools for analysis or eagerness to learn, with judgment about checking AI output.
- Comfort with ambiguity and working on undefined problems.
- Fast learner, valued over existing knowledge of every technique.
- Clear communication skills, able to provide precise asks to engineers and crisp recommendations to founders.
