About the Role
To help create and promote a healthy team, player/coach, and coach-to-coach dynamic. Create a space for students to have the opportunity to participate in sport-specific training during their season, with a focused emphasis on teaching core offensive fundamentals and defensive concepts.
Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and supervise practices, placing heavy emphasis on fundamental offensive instruction (ball handling, shooting mechanics, passing, spacing) and team defensive concepts (man-to-man principles, help-side positioning, and rotation).
- Attend all games and be prepared with a game plan and lineups.
- Ride team bus when necessary or coordinate with your assistant to ride the bus.
- Be present at team gatherings.
- Create and coordinate opportunities for the team to develop camaraderie.
- Adjust typical practice plans to accommodate for health and safety restrictions.
- Manage equipment.
- Coordinate and facilitate uniform return.
- Participate in coaching meetings and collaborate with varsity coaching staff to ensure program alignment.
- Communicate with the team and parents.
- Report game results to the athletic department.
- Complete coaching education as required by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
Requirements
- Undergraduate Degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of basketball, specifically with the ability to teach offensive fundamentals and defensive concepts to high school athletes.
- Ability to improve team dynamics.
- Organized, positive, patient.
- Enjoys working with teenagers.
- Previous playing or coaching experience (high school or club basketball preferred).
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Coaches will be required to follow SFDPH protocols in regard to health, safety, and coaching.
- Ability to work on your feet for multiple hours.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs of equipment.
