About the Role
The Mammography Technologist is responsible for delivering patient-centered care while operating mammographic and/or sonographic equipment with minimal supervision. This role involves producing high-quality breast images for screening and diagnostic purposes, maintaining patient responsiveness, and fostering a safe workplace through effective communication in a multidisciplinary environment. The position requires travel on the Nova Scotia Breast Screening Mobile Unit and within the Mammography Department at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with potential travel to other sites.
Responsibilities
- Operate mammographic and/or sonographic equipment and techniques with minimal supervision.
- Exercise independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative.
- Produce high-quality images of the breasts for screening and diagnostic purposes.
- Remain responsive to and responsible for each patient in their care.
- Communicate effectively in a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary environment.
- Foster a culture of safety in the workplace.
- Travel on the Nova Scotia Breast Screening Mobile Unit and in the Mammography Department at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
- Travel to other sites may be required.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Radiological Technology.
- Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification.
- Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP) licensure.
- Willingness to obtain continuing education as part of the CAR Mammography Accreditation Program (CAR-MAP).
- Willingness to obtain Breast Imaging I and Breast Imaging II courses, and Bring your Position Upfront: Breast Position Virtual Session.
- Basic Life Support Certification.
- Ability to use time effectively by organizing and prioritizing duties.
- Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
- Possess the physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position.
- Demonstrates initiative, organizational and prioritizing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within inter-professional teams.
- Comprehension of technical language to review manuals and participate in discussions.
