About the Role

The Driver provides safe and reliable transportation for agency clients, primarily seniors, during weekdays, evenings, and/or weekends. This role also involves assisting with Meals on Wheels deliveries, courier services, or other driver-related tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and timely transport of clients to and from their destinations.
  • Follow the DriverMate application and/or printed manifest to identify and transport assigned clients.
  • Confirm client identity by verifying full name and destination.
  • Contact the Transportation Office immediately if client identity or trip details are unclear.
  • Ensure all Adult Day Program (ADP) clients receive hand-to-hand drop-offs, transferring them directly to a staff member or responsible party.
  • Transport clients according to the predetermined transportation schedule.
  • Attend to clients’ needs while using the transportation service.
  • Meet clients at the door and walk them to the van when necessary.
  • Assist clients to enter and depart from the vehicle.
  • Ensure clients are seated properly and use seat belts.
  • Assist with bags and carry-on items, potentially lifting 15-20lbs up to 8-9 hours per day.
  • Report all concerns, questions, or problems regarding the client, schedule, or vehicle to the Manager immediately.
  • Meet all client services requirements in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot problems, handle difficult situations, and escalate to a Supervisor when needed.
  • Participate in client satisfaction initiatives to improve quality.
  • Ensure the safe operation, maintenance, neatness, and cleanliness of the vehicle.
  • Inform the Supervisor of required vehicle maintenance and any damage.
  • Complete electronic vehicle inspection checklists before and after each day.
  • Maintain adequate gasoline in the vehicle and follow procedures for gasoline credit card use.
  • Identify and report health and safety incidents and concerns promptly.
  • Participate in health and safety processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe workplace environment and promote staff and client safety.
  • Participate in all health and safety training initiatives.
  • Take proactive action against client incidents within the scope of practice.
  • Develop plans to identify, manage, and minimize client safety risks.
  • Assess the severity of adverse client safety/risk events and develop action plans.
  • Collaborate with funders and follow additional processes as required.
  • Call emergency services (911) when a client is at immediate risk or if there is a serious injury.
  • Evaluate potential hazards and identify clients at risk, taking preventative measures.
  • Report all safety events impacting clients, caregivers, and families with timely and honest disclosure.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid G driver’s license with a driving record in good standing.
  • 5+ years of driving experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to assist seniors with varying physical impairments.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate a passenger van.
  • Demonstrated efforts to continuously update skills.
