About the Role

Bell Media TV is looking for a Principal Technical Architect to join its Strategy and Architecture team. This team is responsible for the technology strategy supporting Bell TV and Bell Media's platforms and services. The media industry is undergoing a major transformation as traditional broadcast and production environments converge with cloud platforms, streaming services, data-driven operations, and artificial intelligence (AI). This role will help define how emerging technologies can be applied across the media value chain, from content creation and management to distribution and broadcasting to audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute technology strategies supporting the organization's direction as a modern digital media company.
  • Define technology roadmaps for media production, content management, broadcast, streaming, and digital distribution.
  • Assess how emerging technologies and evolving industry practices influence the organization's media technology landscape.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize traditional media workflows through cloud, software-defined infrastructure, automation, data, and AI.
  • Align technology investments with the organization's content, audience, operational, and business strategies.
  • Present technical feasibility assessments, architectural recommendations, and transformation roadmaps to senior management.
  • Help establish long-term technology direction as traditional broadcast environments converge with digital and streaming platforms.
  • Assess opportunities and impacts on Bell Media TV systems, including conceptual architecture, cost assessment, impacted teams, efforts, dependencies, and benefits.
  • Evaluate opportunities to consolidate and simplify the end-to-end technology stack for all of Bell Media and Bell TV.
  • Collaborate with external partners and other Bell teams on solution options and related recommendations.
  • Collaborate with technology vendors and industry partners to evaluate emerging platforms and capabilities, including leading pilot projects (trials).
  • Prepare financial analyses on technology opportunities, including multi-year cost and benefit assessments.
  • Stay abreast of major disruptive technology trends and non-technology trends impacting the business.
  • Balance innovation with long-term scalability, reliability, interoperability, security, and maintainability.
  • Build consensus across organizations with differing operational requirements and technology environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or equivalent degree/experience).
  • Expertise in video technologies, gained through advanced study or work experience, a strong asset.
  • Experience using AI for daily operations as well as developing AI/ML or Generative AI strategies in a media environment, gained through advanced study or work experience, a strong asset.
  • Over eight years of experience in solutions architecture.
  • Professional experience in technology strategy, enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, software engineering, or digital transformation.
  • Ability to link media industry and technology changes to long-term business strategy.
  • Deep understanding of the broader OTT video ecosystem and video service industry, and preferably, a strong end-to-end understanding of video technology platforms and services within Bell Media and Bell TV.
  • Working knowledge or experience with Bell Media's digital products and brands, particularly with front-end and back-end technical systems, a strong asset.
  • Experience in architecting and implementing streaming and video technology solutions, ad tech, AI/ML, Generative AI, big data, and analytics technologies, a strong asset.
  • Experience with cloud-based media processing and distribution architectures, including native cloud architectures, microservices, containers, and distributed systems, a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to: Express oneself in business terms and effectively translate technical terms into clear, simple language.
  • Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with individuals at various levels of the organization, with the ability to influence and strategically guide the business.
  • Produce and communicate clear technology roadmaps regarding deliverable expectations, key contributors, timelines, etc.
  • Ability to influence in a complex and evolving environment to meet tight deadlines and achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, positive attitude, and proven negotiation and influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Maturity, self-confidence, and a performance-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and with limited information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a consistent focus on building relationships and establishing trust with stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions offered in Quebec.
