About the Role
The Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel will provide expert legal advice and guidance on a wide range of legal issues, primarily supporting the Regulatory department. This role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, handling transactions, managing legal risks, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Represent AEP Texas in proceedings before the Public Utility Commission.
- Provide strategic legal advice on business initiatives.
- Lead contract negotiations for major projects.
- Oversee compliance programs to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Represent regulated subsidiaries in proceedings before federal or state regulatory agencies.
- Manage litigation processes and coordinate with outside legal counsel on significant disputes.
- Develop training and compliance programs for employees related to industry regulations and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of legal strategies with business objectives.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited US law school.
- 7+ years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department and in the electric utility or energy sector.
- Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate.
- Eight plus years of experience as a practicing regulatory attorney in private practice or in a corporate legal department.
- Active license to practice law in TX.
