About the Role
The Senior Civil Engineer functions as the Construction Services Engineer, leading a team that provides technical assistance to Construction field staff and Project Development personnel. This team also conducts high-level technical reviews for project documents and collaborates with design teams to resolve construction and contract development challenges. Additionally, the team develops and delivers training for field staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of field support specialists, the Structural Services Unit, and the Finals Engineer.
- Provide technical assistance to Construction field staff and Project Development personnel.
- Conduct high-level technical reviews for project documents during development.
- Collaborate with Agency Project Development & Rail Design teams to resolve construction and contract development challenges.
- Develop and provide training for field staff.
- Serve as a permanent member of the Prequalification Committee.
- Review and approve weekly progress payments to contractors.
- Establish and track Construction's annual budget.
- Oversee updates to process manuals and field guidance documents.
- Participate in broader process improvement initiatives for the Construction Section, Construction and Materials Bureau, and Highway Division.
Requirements
- Registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Ten (10) years of engineering experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized.
- Experience leading teams.
- Working knowledge of VTrans document management and processing systems such as Doc Express, Exevision, and Sharepoint is preferred.
- Private means of transportation must be available.
- Ability to work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings.
- Ability to handle strong differences of opinion.
