About the Role
Provides scientific and operational leadership for the Global Center's portfolio of randomized controlled trials and implementation science studies across country-based activities. Accountable for the design, implementation, and successful execution of intervention research programs in partnership with various organizations across international settings. Oversees research staff, implementation partners, and external collaborators, ensuring scientific rigor, operational excellence, and achievement of study objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior oversight of the implementation of complex research initiatives, ensuring studies are executed effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with research protocols, organizational priorities, timelines, budgets, and established quality standards.
- Lead the scientific and operational oversight of randomized controlled trials, implementation science studies, and intervention research programs across multiple countries and implementation settings.
- Monitor research implementation across projects, proactively identifying operational risks, resource constraints, competing priorities, dependencies, and potential delays; develop mitigation strategies and escalate significant issues to leadership as appropriate.
- Directly manage the implementation of one or more large-scale, complex research projects, including development and management of project plans, timelines, budgets, staffing and resource needs, milestones, risks, and deliverables from study start-up through implementation and closeout.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with research institutions, government entities, healthcare systems, and implementation partners supporting country-based research programs.
- Provide subject matter expertise, senior guidance and problem-solving support for complex study implementation activities, including study start-up, regulatory and Institutional Review Board requirements, site readiness, participant recruitment, field operations, data collection, research platforms, translation and cultural adaptation, and data quality.
- Facilitate communication and coordination across vendors, investigators, research managers, research scientists, data and measurement teams, program teams, operations staff, and organizational leadership to support effective implementation and timely resolution of project issues.
- Perform other job-related duties as necessary.
- Recruit and onboard new staff, delegate work assignments, set goals and expectations, deliver training and professional development opportunities, evaluate performance, deliver feedback and coaching, model organizational values, and foster team cooperation and collaboration.
Requirements
- PhD in public health, epidemiology, psychology, behavioral or social sciences with a minimum 10 years of senior level, operations, or project management experience in global settings.
- Significant experience managing complex research studies, including multi-site research, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), implementation science studies, and/or other interdisciplinary research programs, preferably involving multiple institutional or international partners.
- Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills, including successfully leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated strategic and critical thinking.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), systems thinking, and an understanding of project, financial, and organizational management.
- Ability to rapidly build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders across diverse cultural and institutional settings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and execution.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, operate standard office equipment (including computers, phones, copiers, and printers), perform repetitive tasks, and communicate effectively with others.
