About the Role
As Accounting Manager, you will own accounting for a newly acquired operating company, covering monthly close, reporting, controls, payroll oversight, and the annual audit. This is a hands-on role with real ownership, working closely with the regional finance team. Key areas include revenue recognition, job costing, cash management, and leading process improvements during integration.
Responsibilities
- Own monthly close, including running a fast, accurate close and flash report.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Own revenue recognition under ASC 606, job costing, and WIP across active projects.
- Own the income statement and balance sheet, including deferred revenue, prepaids, and fixed assets.
- Establish and manage cycle counts and inventory accounting.
- Prepare the monthly financial package and variance analysis.
- Record, reconcile, and settle intercompany activity.
- Build and maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Prepare PBC schedules and answer auditor questions for the annual audit.
- Keep tax and regulatory filings current.
- Prepare the annual budget and track KPIs.
- Create, document, and maintain standard procedures for close, AP/AR, payroll, and reporting.
- Replace manual workflows with standardized, automated ones.
- Support the regional team on ERP implementations and integrations.
- Lead and develop accounting staff.
- Ensure payroll, AR, and AP are accurate and on time.
- Guide the team through new systems, policies, and reporting requirements.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with hands-on ownership of the monthly close.
- Strong command of GAAP, including ASC 606, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
- Experience with project-based accounting: job costing, WIP, and over/under billings.
- Experience with inventory accounting, including cycle counts, valuation, and reconciling physical counts to the general ledger.
- Experience running close and reporting across multiple entities, branches, or subsidiaries.
- Comfort with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, ServiceTitan) and ability to learn new ones quickly.
- Strong Excel and modeling skills.
- Self-directed, able to bring structure to ambiguity.
- CPA preferred.
- Public accounting background preferred.
- Construction or field-services industry experience preferred.
- Experience supervising a team preferred.
