About the Role

Land Surveying is the science of measuring and mapping the physical environment. As a Land Surveyor, you will assist in carrying out surveys, collecting and analysing data, and supporting the delivery of accurate information relating to land, buildings, and infrastructure projects. The data gathered helps inform engineering, construction, mapping, and land development activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely and accurately. Throughout your placement, you will gain exposure to a variety of surveying techniques, technologies, and projects, while building a strong understanding of the role Land Surveyors play within the construction and civil engineering industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a Land Surveying or related degree student to gain valuable hands-on experience on live projects, working alongside experienced professionals and developing practical skills that will support their academic studies and future career.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with topographical and site surveys.
  • Support the collection and processing of survey data.
  • Learn to use surveying equipment, including GPS, Total Stations, laser scanners and drones.
  • Assist with the production of drawings, maps and reports using AutoCAD and other surveying software.
  • Support the surveying team with setting out activities on site.
  • Interpret survey information from maps, drawings and site plans.
  • Assist with volume calculations and earthworks surveys.
  • Help to maintain accurate survey records and project documentation.
  • Support as-built, deformation monitoring and control surveys.
  • Learn how GIS and digital mapping systems are used within construction projects.
  • Collaborate with Site Engineers, Project Managers and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist with equipment checks, calibration and maintenance.
  • Adhere to company health, safety and quality standards at all times.

Requirements

  • BTEC Civil Engineering qualification, HNC/HND, or equivalent relevant qualification
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Right to work in UK and Ireland.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • An appreciation of Health & Safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Previous work experience specifically in the Construction Industry.
  • Able to demonstrate problem solving.
  • Commercial Awareness: strong business acumen combined with the creativity and vision to meet customer needs and GRAHAM business requirements.
  • Leadership skills: Communicates and gains team commitment to a vision, able to motivate staff and provide direction and vision.
  • Effective Communication skills: Able to adapt communication to audience and create detailed written documents and reports. Able to maintain and manage communication links with a variety of stakeholders. Presents a professional image and promotes the Brand.
