About the Role

As a Senior Solicitor (Grade V), you will independently manage complex legal matters, delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and client-focused legal services aligned with CSO’s business objectives. As a Principal Solicitor (Grade VI), you will additionally support the Director in managing the practice group, overseeing client and stakeholder engagement, and driving team-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage complex legal matters.
  • Deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and client-focused legal services.
  • Support the Director in managing the practice group (Principal Solicitor role).
  • Oversee client and stakeholder engagement (Principal Solicitor role).
  • Drive team-wide initiatives (Principal Solicitor role).
  • Conduct complex public law litigation, including judicial review and merits review proceedings.
  • Handle legally and factually complex revenue litigation.
  • Engage in commercial and general litigation.
  • Advise NSW Government agencies on constitutional law, administrative law, and statutory interpretation.
  • Provide advice on commercial law applicable to NSW Government agencies.
  • Handle matters involving constitutional challenges to government action and legislation.
  • Address issues related to statutory functions and obligations of public sector agencies and law enforcement agencies.
  • Manage government procurement.
  • Handle Crown copyright matters.
  • Oversee significant commercial transactions.

Requirements

  • Completion of a law degree from an accredited law school or the Legal Practitioners Admission Board’s Diploma in Law Course.
  • Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW.
  • Highly developed legal skills and extensive experience in providing advice and representation in highly complex legal matters within the practice group's specializations.
  • Undertake Criminal Record Check, Security Clearance, and Working with Children Check.
  • For the Senior Solicitor V role, applicants must hold a practising certificate that authorises them to supervise legal practice by others.

Salary/Compensations

  • Legal Officer Grade V $159,035 - $162,153 p.a (excluding superannuation and annual leave loading)
  • Legal Officer Grade VI $170,841 - $174,440 p.a (excluding superannuation and annual leave loading)
