About the Role

The Senior Manager, Business Finance Credit Risk is a senior second-line leadership role responsible for the oversight, decision quality, and resilience of AMP Bank's Business Finance credit portfolio. The role provides independent credit judgment, exercises delegated credit authority, leads and develops the Business Finance Credit team, and ensures lending activities operate in line with AMP Bank's Risk Appetite Statement, credit policies, prudential obligations, and customer expectations. The role supports prudent portfolio growth through commercially informed challenge of credit proposals, policy exceptions, portfolio trends, emerging risks, watchlist exposures, and strategic business initiatives. It plays a key role in strengthening risk culture, enhancing control effectiveness and credit capability, while providing clear risk insights and recommendations to senior management, risk committees, and the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and enhancement of Business Finance credit policies, standards, and governance frameworks.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the interpretation and application of credit policy requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in credit risk management practices.
  • Identify and implement policy, control, and governance improvements.
  • Provide independent second-line oversight of Business Finance credit risk.
  • Deliver commercially informed challenge on lending proposals, portfolio trends, watchlist exposures, and strategic business initiatives.
  • Monitor portfolio risk indicators and emerging themes.
  • Support the Head of Risk through timely analysis, reporting, and recommendations.
  • Exercise delegated credit authority in accordance with AMP Bank's lending framework, credit policies, and risk appetite.
  • Review, approve, or recommend commercial lending transactions.
  • Promote strong credit decision quality through robust risk assessment, financial analysis, covenant management, and consistent policy application.
  • Support the ongoing development of credit standards and decision quality expectations.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge of watchlist, deteriorating, and higher-risk Business Finance exposures.
  • Review remediation, recovery, and workout strategies.
  • Escalate material risk events, covenant breaches, and policy exceptions.
  • Provide risk-based recommendations to support sound portfolio outcomes and effective risk mitigation.
  • Support strategic Business Finance initiatives.
  • Assess the credit risk implications of new and amended lending propositions.
  • Provide risk expertise and challenge across projects and change initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and constructive challenge.
  • Build organisational capability and a proactive risk culture.

Requirements

  • Ideally at least 7+ years' experience in credit risk management, commercial credit, or business lending within a regulated banking environment, including extensive second-line risk management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience exercising delegated credit authority and reviewing complex lending transactions.
  • Deep expertise in commercial credit assessment.
  • Strong credit judgement with the ability to challenge risk grading, serviceability, valuation assumptions, collateral coverage, LGD, and alignment to risk appetite.
  • Expert knowledge of the financial services industry, including APRA, ASIC, APRA Prudential Standards, and key regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, monitoring, and reporting on credit risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience overseeing portfolio risk, watchlist, and impaired exposures.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including leading technical specialists, coaching capability, and building organizational capability.
  • Experience in portfolio analytics, risk reporting, and commercial lending portfolios focused on professional services, financial planning, mortgage broking, or other recurring revenue and goodwill-backed business models will be highly regarded.
  • Commercially astute and influential risk leader with the ability to apply sound judgement and provide independent, constructive challenge.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships and confidently engage with senior stakeholders.
  • Effective communicator who can translate complex risk matters into clear insights.
  • Comfortable leading through ambiguity.
  • Collaborate effectively across the three lines of defence.
  • Work closely with Legal, Finance, Operations, Internal Audit, External Audit, and regulators.
