About the Role
The Frosh/Soph (F/S) Boys Head Basketball Coach will be responsible for coaching and managing the F/S boys basketball team. This role involves providing leadership, instruction, and motivation to student-athletes, fostering their development in basketball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. The coach will work closely with the Varsity and JV Head Coach to ensure alignment in coaching philosophy and program goals, contributing to the vibrant school community.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective practice sessions focusing on skill development, conditioning, and teamwork.
- Manage all aspects of F/S basketball games, including lineups, substitutions, and in-game strategy.
- Maintain open communication with student-athletes, parents, the athletic director, and varsity coaching staff.
- Work with individual players to develop their skills and knowledge of the game.
- Assess and evaluate players' performance for roster decisions and potential team movement.
- Foster a positive, inclusive team culture emphasizing teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.
- Ensure all practices and games follow safety protocols and school district policies.
- Monitor athletes' health and fitness levels.
- Encourage student-athletes to excel academically and monitor their eligibility.
- Assist with the distribution, collection, and care of equipment and uniforms.
- Collaborate with the varsity head coach to align strategies, philosophies, and player development plans.
Requirements
- Prior coaching experience in basketball (preferably at the high school or youth level).
- Playing experience is preferred.
- High school diploma required.
- In-depth knowledge of basketball rules, tactics, and strategies.
- Ability to motivate and guide young athletes.
- Must hold current CPR and First Aid certifications or be willing to obtain them before the season starts.
- Must hold current CIF/NFHS certifications or be willing to obtain them before the season starts.
- Must pass a background check in accordance with school district policy.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well within a team setting and collaborate with other coaching staff.
- Passion for basketball and working with high school athletes.
- Commitment to promoting good sportsmanship and academic success.
