About the Role

OneView is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and build complex features and integrations end to end, from very little direction. This role is crucial for developing features for a platform serving over a hundred thousand users across global retail estates, with a focus on systems that must maintain functionality during connection drops and reconcile perfectly upon reconnection. The position offers a deliberate step towards a Lead Software Engineer role, with opportunities to mentor, influence technical direction, and contribute to team methodologies.

Responsibilities

Design and build complex features and integration services end to end, from little direction, for a platform running continuously across thousands of shops in multiple countries.
Take the hardest item on the team's backlog and be trusted with it.
Own the technical design for significant pieces of work, documenting, presenting, and iterating on designs based on feedback.
Design in performance, security, and resilience from the outset.
Lead reviews of colleagues' work, ensuring code quality improvement.
Contribute to team decisions on methods, libraries, and tooling, advocating with evidence.
Collaborate with the Product Owner to shape product development, challenging scope and surfacing technical constraints.
Write comprehensive tests to ensure current functionality and prevent future regressions.
Conduct technical investigations, evaluating options, prototyping, and providing actionable recommendations.
Break down large tasks into incrementally deliverable pieces to accelerate value delivery.
Provide honest estimates and sequence work, proactively communicating risks to sprint commitments.
Own production work, including instrumentation, monitoring, and issue resolution.
Mentor a Software Engineer, focusing on their development and improvement.
Participate in incident response, on-call rotations, and post-incident reviews for owned systems.
Document work thoroughly to enable safe modifications by others.

Requirements

5+ years building production software, with a track record of delivering complex work independently.
Strong proficiency in a modern typed language such as TypeScript, Go, Java, Kotlin, Python, or C#.
Deep expertise on either the client side (e.g., React, Angular, Vue) or service side.
Experience building and consuming REST and event-driven interfaces, understanding appropriate use cases for each.
Public cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including managed and serverless compute patterns.
Proficiency in data modeling across relational and document stores, with the ability to diagnose slow queries.
Adherence to test-first development practices.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including reading failing builds.
Ability to debug production issues using logs, traces, and metrics.
Skilled in code reviews, improving code quality without causing delays.
Ability to work with minimal direction, resolve ambiguity through questioning, and produce defensible solutions.
Experience mentoring at least one engineer, with demonstrable impact.
Proficiency in AI-assisted development as a normal practice, able to explain all shipped generated code.
