About the Role

The Employment Specialist will utilize the Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) model to assist individuals in ACT Programs in securing competitive employment. This involves assessing employment preferences and career goals, providing benefits counseling, offering support for job placement, and connecting individuals with employment opportunities and resources. A significant portion of this role is field-based, requiring over 65% of services to be delivered in the community, including employer networking and client visits.

Responsibilities

  • Use the Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) model to identify individuals in the ACT Program with vocational goals.
  • Assess consumers' vocational preferences and plans.
  • Support consumers in finding and maintaining employment.
  • Provide benefits counseling and job coaching.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with local employers for job placement opportunities.
  • Provide 65% or more of services in the community, including client visits and employer networking.
  • Attend and participate in daily team meetings with ACT team members.
  • Work in conjunction with the ACT Vocational Specialist for vocational assessments and service coordination.
  • Complete employment-related documentation for NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH), Broome County, and New York Employment Services System (NYESS).
  • Provide follow-up contact to individuals enrolled in the ACE program regarding employment opportunities, interview outcomes, or concerns.
  • Provide job searches and match enrolled individuals to potential positions.
  • Adhere to Catholic Charities, OMH, ACT, and ACE Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of community resources relevant to consumer needs.
  • Complete required trainings.
  • Perform related job duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum one year of personal or professional experience in providing direct services related to the treatment and recovery of persons with serious mental illness.
  • Experience and/or training in vocational counseling, the IPS Model, and job development.
  • Ability to network and interact with local employers and travel independently within the community.
  • Ability to adhere to paperwork deadlines, perform assessments, prepare reports, and complete other documentation.
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing 40 lbs. or less.
  • Valid Driver's license and the ability to legally operate a vehicle in NYS.
  • Adheres to Catholic Charities, OMH and ACT, and ACE Policies and procedures.
  • Maintains awareness of community resources relevant to consumer needs.
  • Completes initial and ongoing relevant trainings as required by the ACT Institute, Center for Practice Innovations and Catholic Charities and all tiers of NYESS Trainings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Highly motivated and independent self-starter.
  • Good computer skills with working knowledge of or ability to learn reporting tools such as New York Employment Services System (NYESS).
