About the Role
The NYCLU seeks diverse current law students for a 10-week Summer 2027 internship program. Interns in the Legal Department will engage in legal research and writing to support litigation and advocacy on civil rights and liberties issues. There is also a hybrid opportunity for one intern to work within both the Legal and Policy Departments.
Responsibilities
- Engage in legal research and writing to support litigation and advocacy on civil rights and liberties issues.
- Support policy campaigns.
- Participate in public education about civil rights and liberties.
- Monitor court proceedings.
- Design, advocate for, implement, and monitor legislative and policy initiatives.
Requirements
- Commitment to public interest law.
- Commitment to civil liberties.
- Must submit a cover letter, resume, and a recent writing sample (brief, motion, or memorandum of law, not to exceed 10 pages).
- Applicants should note their interest in an internship exclusively with the Legal Department, a hybrid Legal and Policy Department internship, or consideration for both roles.
