About the Role

The Maintenance Supervisor provides leadership and technical guidance to optimize plant equipment performance through maintenance and continuous improvement projects. This role supervises the Maintenance team, manages facilities and maintenance planning, and develops training for technicians and operators.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and assign technical resources and established priorities based on operational and business needs.
  • Monitor work environment for compliance with cGMP’s, safety and housekeeping guidelines.
  • Monitor and assist development of technicians, support training materials/matrices and conduct training sessions.
  • Create an environment where employees share knowledge and learnings.
  • Communicate across all shifts any issues, root causes and corrective actions.
  • Control repair and maintenance spend within the department's budget.
  • Manage contractors on site to ensure compliance with site safety rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
  • Ensure set-ups/equipment changeovers/repairs for packaging and processing equipment are done timely and correctly.
  • Develop, improve and maintain changeover sheets, start-up checklists and procedures.
  • Develop equipment specific certification and training programs.
  • Train and certify technicians on equipment specific programs.
  • Review, recommend and implement improvements in operation, autonomous maintenance and maintenance activities.
  • Be familiar with all packaging, process and support equipment within the site.
  • Initiate and participate in trouble shooting and corrective action investigation activities.
  • Ensure technical aspects of proposed problem resolution is implemented.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment spare parts and change parts.
  • Identify and purchase replacement equipment components.
  • Resolve failure modes of plant support equipment.
  • Conduct general troubleshooting of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, drive-mechanisms, and PLC/HMI, photo sensors, Vision Systems, thermal printers.
  • Review equipment reliability and recommend improvements.
  • Lead, actively participate and support OPEX initiatives.
  • Develop, review and improve preventative maintenance work to reduce failure modes.
  • Conceptualize and implement design upgrades to outmode devices and systems.
  • Participate on new launch teams and provide feasibility information.
  • Assist in the development of specifications and acceptance protocols.
  • Initiate projects where appropriate.
  • Review new equipment purchase specifications.
  • Provide feedback regarding equipment design and operability.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance tests, commissioning and start-up of new equipment installations.
  • Aid in the installation of new equipment.
  • Proactively identify and resolve safety concerns.
  • Identify areas where training is required.
  • Observe and conform to all OHSA and EH&S guidelines and procedures.
  • Conduct risk and hazard assessments and actively participate and evaluate PSR’s.
  • Participate in the establishment of annual EH&S.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years supervisory experience.
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing facilities.
  • Engineering degree/diploma or equivalent maintenance experience.
  • Millwright certification or Electrical License an asset.
  • Must be familiar with Processing and Packaging Equipment.
  • Broad engineering and/or maintenance background in manufacturing, filling and packaging environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical trouble shooting methods.
  • Knowledge of how to use machine tools and hand tools safely and correctly.
  • Working knowledge of PLC’s and PLC programming.
  • Knowledge of CMMS principles of operation.
  • Knowledge of safety responsibilities (legal and company procedures).
  • Strong computer skills (Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • All jobs require sufficient physical strength and dexterity to perform the required task(s).
  • Typically require intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds or more with assistance may also be required.
  • Employees must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by Company policy and/or legal requirements.
  • Certain jobs may require employees to work outside and/or in adverse temperatures which could include extreme heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Be exposed to vibrations, chemicals used in operations, fumes and food allergens (may include soy, dairy and other allergens).
  • Be required to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
