About the Role

The Mechanical Applications Engineer I is responsible for developing project-specific layouts and technical solutions for specialty elevator equipment, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, engineering standards, and manufacturing requirements. This position collaborates with Sales, Customer Service, Estimating, Engineering, and Manufacturing to confirm product functionality, resolve technical issues, and support retrofit and custom projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret customer requirements, specifications, drawings, surveys, and order information.
  • Analyze job requirements and configure appropriate applications and equipment using a CPQ system.
  • Review and modify bills of materials, parts, and material requirements using an ERP system.
  • Process retrofitting projects that may require modification of company products and equipment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with various departments to ensure client specifications are met.
  • Problem-solve and answer questions about the technical functionality of mechanical equipment.
  • Provide technical support for mechanical products.
  • Orchestrate both simple and complex tasks with limited supervision.
  • Participate in information gathering calls and/or meetings with clients to determine needs and desired outcomes.
  • Present information and new ideas for review and possible implementation into new and existing products.
  • Review and understand product design changes related to elevator equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field with up to 2 years of relevant experience; or an Associate degree in a related technical field with 2–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar CAD software.
  • Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional work ethic, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision when required.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing, and engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material (BOMs), and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify missing, conflicting, or incomplete technical information.
  • Basic understanding of dimensional tolerances, mechanical components, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to learn and work with engineering and business systems such as Tacton CPQ, Visual ERP, and DocuWare.
  • Ability to manage multiple orders and priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Previous experience with elevator door equipment or related mechanical equipment is preferred but not required.
