About the Role

School in the Square is seeking a dedicated, mission-aligned learning specialist for their Elementary School, Dos Amigos. This Dual Language PreK-5th grade program focuses on bilingual immersion and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). The role involves supporting academic standards and students' social-emotional needs, reporting to the Principal and collaborating with the School Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

  • Support efforts to ensure high academic standards.
  • Focus on the social-emotional needs of all students.
  • Coach special educators.
  • Lead school-wide systems to support students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Coach teachers.
  • Lead professional development.
  • Use data to inform instruction and strengthen student outcomes.
  • Engage, enlist, and energize others in the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching.
  • Self-initiate, determine a course of action, and make necessary proposals for change.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a full-time, impactful secondary special educator.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in an urban charter school setting strongly preferred.
  • Evidence of deep knowledge of special education compliance and effective practice.
  • Adept problem-solver with a demonstrated ability to think critically, plan strategically, research, and perform detailed data analysis.
  • Documented success coaching special educators and leading school-wide systems to support students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Strong instructional leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to inform instruction and strengthen student outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to equity and culturally responsive practice.
  • A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication and planning skills.
  • A consummate coach and strong relationship builder.
  • Familiar with restorative practices.
  • A strong believer in anti-racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Professional fluency in Spanish or experience with ESL/Dual Language teaching preferred.
  • Proactive and fast learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate experience using technology as both a management and instructional tool.
  • A high appreciation for and ability to work in and lead a diverse community.
  • Team-player capable of working both collaboratively and independently.
