About the Role
St. Thomas More Preschool aims to provide a positive and enjoyable learning experience that fosters intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual growth in students. The Substitute role supports the classroom teacher by interacting with children during activities and ensuring a cohesive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Implement a meaningful learning experience by interacting with children in classroom activities.
- Support the classroom teacher.
- Follow lesson plans to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience.
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including playground and cafeteria.
- Assist the teacher in setting up the classroom in the morning and afternoons.
- Clean tables after snacks and lunch and sweep floors.
- Assist in daily cleaning of the classroom.
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Thomas More.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Continuously grow in ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities.
Requirements
- Passion to influence the lives of pre-kindergarten children.
- Patience in meeting young learners' spiritual, academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
- Patience in accepting guidance and assignments from the classroom teacher.
- High school diploma.
- Working with young children is preferred.
- Valid Texas driver's license.
- Compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity Ministry (EIM) policies.
- Required to lift or carry supplies, textbooks, equipment, etc.
- Required to lift or carry babies/toddlers.
- Required to share diaper and/or potty-training duties with the teacher.
- Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak daily.
- Required to monitor students in various locations, including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather.
