About the Role

The Planning and Logistics Manager is responsible for maintaining materials and production planning functions, managing direct reports to ensure proper production planning and purchasing. This role ensures effective and efficient operation of the MRP system and contributes to manufacturing at best cost through timely procurement and optimal service levels.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and release orders to manufacturing and/or packaging to ensure timely starts and efficient processing to meet due dates.
  • Schedule and release purchased components from approved vendors.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • Manage and coordinate warehouse operations, including incoming and outgoing deliveries.
  • Interface with customers to address delivery, quality, and planning communications.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and/or packaging management to ensure a smooth flow of needed materials.
  • Review product mix to ensure sufficient capacity for production goals and customer requirements.
  • Work with inventory personnel to maintain accurate inventories and perpetual inventory.
  • Coordinate with logistics for efficient, timely, and cost-effective product movement.
  • Advise management on work in progress, material availability, and production issues.
  • Update and maintain current MRP operating data.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
  • Maintain Production Control functions in the Materials Manager’s absence.
  • Ensure daily/monthly tasks are completed by direct reports to maintain standard work and accurate data.
  • Monitor daily shipment shortages for follow-up.
  • Plan integration parts and debug systems.
  • Dispose of waste properly, including recyclables, standard waste, and hazardous waste.
  • Perform other tasks as required to fulfill company beliefs and drivers.

Requirements

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted for the expected levels of education and experience.
  • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English to communicate effectively with vendors and internal suppliers, and interpret invoices.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to coach and communicate organizational requirements, job duties, and performance expectations to direct reports.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • General knowledge of accounting and understanding of general ledger accounts and their relation to invoices.
  • Ability to operate a 10-key calculator.
  • Must be able to perform physical functions equivalent to Category E.
