About the Role
The Financial Times is seeking a professional services correspondent to expand and elevate coverage of the professional services sector, focusing on how AI disruption, slower growth, and scrutiny are impacting top corporate advisers. This role involves breaking news on major consultancies and contributing to coverage of the Big Four, while analyzing the global impact of AI on the sector.
Responsibilities
- Bring in high-profile scoops about the big professional services firms on issues such as: work won and lost, financial performance, strategic changes, adoption of AI and technology, behaviour and workplace culture, regulatory interventions, leadership changes and M&A.
- Deliver deeply reported analyses on the changing business models of professional services groups, their business relationships with AI, tech and software groups and their importance in wider society.
- Be the first to report on the roles of consultants in big corporate stories in other sectors, such as turnaround plans and strategic overhauls at blue-chip companies.
- Work weekend shifts as part of the newsroom rota.
- Work with, and provide cover for, reporters on the professional services team during absences.
- Contribute across different media as the FT expands its professional services coverage.
Requirements
- Must be able to deliver scoops and inside-the-room insight on the executives who run the big consultancies, their pay and C-suite power dynamics within the firms.
- Must be able to dig into how AI is disrupting IT consulting firms’ lucrative business implementing enterprise software products.
- Must be able to cover the advisory operations of the Big Four – Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC.
- Must be able to break news on the big strategy and IT consultancies, particularly McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Bain and Accenture.
- Must be able to chart how AI is reshaping the sector globally.
- Must be able to report on job cuts and changes to the sector’s staffing model.
- Must be able to report on the incursion of private equity and growth of challengers.
- Must be able to work closely with colleagues from across the newsroom, particularly the US Professional Services Editor and the London-based Accountancy Correspondent.
