About the Role
This role leads the finance function, integrating business plan/budget formulation with shareholder/investor relations (IR). You will translate business unit figures into company-wide plans through mid-term management plans and annual budget creation, manage budget vs. actuals, and articulate these plans to existing and new investors. Responsibilities include preparing investor materials for future IPOs, building financial models, and communicating the business's scale and potential. You will work closely with the CEO and management, collaborating with Product, Operation, Engineering, and Legal departments to establish management control and IR functions for an IPO, eventually leading the finance team.
Responsibilities
- Design and manage the mid-term management plan and annual budget formulation process, including aligning on assumptions with business and corporate departments.
- Build and update revenue models, unit economics, and cash flow forecasts by business segment and product.
- Manage monthly and quarterly budget vs. actuals, analyze variances, update forecasts, and report regularly to management.
- Define and establish monitoring systems for key KPIs, and prepare materials for management and board meetings.
- Evaluate business feasibility and support investment decisions for new businesses, large-scale projects, and capital expenditures.
- Plan, create materials for, and manage regular reports to existing shareholders (performance, KPIs, business progress).
- Create equity stories, investor presentations, and business plan models for fundraising.
- Serve as the point of contact for investor questions and due diligence, and manage the data room.
- Prepare investor materials in English and communicate with overseas shareholders.
- Establish budget control and KPI management for IPO readiness, and design future IR functions (disclosure policy, explanatory materials, investor relations flow), including collaboration with external experts like auditors and securities firms.
- Design the finance team structure, recruit and train members, and define roles in relation to accounting and legal functions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Over 5 years of practical experience in business planning, budget formulation, and budget vs. actuals management.
- Experience creating financial and business plan materials for management or investors.
- Team or project lead experience (managing members or driving projects involving multiple departments).
- Practical experience in one of the following areas: Corporate planning/FP&A in a business company; Investment banking/securities (IB/ECM), PE fund/VC, or FAS with financial modeling/fundraising support; Business planning/financial analysis projects in a consulting firm; Fundraising/investor relations at a startup.
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets for building and operating three-statement financial models.
- Accounting knowledge of P/L, B/S, C/F, and the ability to translate business initiatives into numbers.
- Execution capability to involve cross-departmental and diverse personnel, consolidating figures with differing assumptions into a single plan.
- Business-level Japanese proficiency.
- Comfort reading and creating materials in English (communication with overseas shareholders and internal foreign members is expected).
- Commitment to numerical accuracy and a strong sense of ownership for explanations to internal and external parties.
