About the Role
The Research Analyst 3 will support advancing various programs and projects within the Transportation Services Policy, Data & Strategic Initiatives Section. This role contributes to shaping the City’s policy and practices related to transportation right-of-way usage and management, data collection and analysis, and responding to data requests to create a more livable, equitable, and resilient City.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research for assigned projects, considering field developments, corporate policies, legislation, and government initiatives.
- Establish and maintain SharePoint filing systems and support process development for compliance with MFIPPA and City records management policies.
- Respond to business inquiries from internal and external sources, including managing logistics and payment processing for data requests.
- Compile and analyze data such as technical traffic data, surveys, and public consultation input.
- Take minutes at meetings to support the Section’s work.
- Input requests, reports, documents, proposals, and correspondence into systems like Maximo.
- Compile information packages and manage direct mail activities for Unit activities.
- Coordinate regularly with the Director’s Assistant (DA) and provide coverage when the DA is away.
- Coordinate with other support staff regarding office needs.
- Coordinate meetings, including scheduling, booking locations, and managing logistics.
- Update and maintain directories, statistics, and communications for all division levels, including management.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Urban Planning, Social Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience conducting research, analyzing, and interpreting large volumes of data and summarizing findings.
- Considerable experience in information identification, collection, and documentation, including developing written materials like reports, minutes, and memos.
- Considerable experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships and operate as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to research, access, and summarize qualitative and quantitative information into clear reports for senior management and stakeholders.
- Ability to demonstrate curiosity, understand work purpose, identify issues, solve problems, and ask questions.
- Strong knowledge of urban planning and/or transportation planning and operations language and concepts.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to new or evolving work assignments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of the City's financial policies and procedures, including payment processing, or similar knowledge from other organizations.
- Familiarity with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and municipal obligations under this Act.
- Knowledge of the City’s records management policies and/or best practices.
