About the Role

The Capital Projects Design & Delivery (CPDD) Branch is seeking motivated design professionals to join their growing team. This role will provide strategic implementation and delivery of recreation capital projects and maintain specialized procurement tools to expedite project delivery. The Construction Coordinator will manage design contract documents and contract administration for various building projects, renovations, and new constructions.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes project scope, scheduling, coordination, and interfacing requirements.
  • Prepares design and working drawings, specifications, bills of material, and detailed estimates.
  • Performs contract administration and field supervision, including instructing contractors and interpreting specifications.
  • Initiates field changes to correct design errors based on site conditions.
  • Records and recommends approval for contractor progress claims.
  • Maintains records of contract deficiencies and takes corrective action.
  • Ensures proper contract completion and arranges for official handover.
  • Initiates and maintains warranty records.
  • Takes action to correct failures within the warranty period and recommends release of contractor holdback.
  • Drafts tenders, RFPs, RFQs, provides bid analysis, and prepares reports.
  • Verifies contractor adherence to City by-laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates and attends site, project team, and client meetings.
  • Performs technical work for planning, design, construction, and maintenance of City facilities.
  • Provides technical assistance in planning and scheduling capital projects.
  • Prepares estimates and layouts, verifies calculations, and performs on-site visits.
  • Prepares specifications, tenders, reports, and determines quantity and cost estimates.
  • Assists supervisors/project managers with investigating and responding to inquiries and complaints.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture, or equivalent combination of education and/or related construction coordination experience.
  • Considerable experience in contract administration, construction methods, inspection, and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Considerable experience in coordinating multi-disciplined capital construction projects.
  • Considerable experience in directing the work of consultants, contractors, and staff.
  • Experience utilizing Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver's License.
  • Must have access to a vehicle for site visits.
  • Knowledge of architecture and construction techniques.
  • Strong understanding of the Project Management process.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including asbestos, silica, confined spaces, WHMIS, and shoring legislation.

  • Project management diploma would be an asset.

Salary/Compensations

  • $47.07 - $51.58 per hour
