About the Role

The Community Development Officer supports, coordinates, and leads processes for collaborative risk-driven interventions, strengthens inter-sectoral partnerships, and identifies emerging issues and best practices. This role is part of the Furthering Our Community by Uniting Services (FOCUS) Toronto initiative, aimed at reducing crime and improving community resiliency.

Responsibilities

  • Provides community development services to various community stakeholders.
  • Exercises professional judgment in complex and sensitive situations involving multiple risk factors.
  • Facilitates partnership tables and enhances collaborative approaches with lead partners.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with diverse community organizations and partners.
  • Coordinates and provides support for initiatives within the Community Safety & Well-being Section.
  • Designs and delivers training and initiatives to build capacity and leadership in community safety and well-being.
  • Develops collaborative risk-driven interventions with communities and service providers.
  • Initiates and manages inter-sectoral program partnerships and integrated service planning.
  • Assesses community crisis/risk situations and initiates appropriate responses.
  • Develops and implements strategies to address community needs and improve access.
  • Provides advice, mentoring, and consultation to community leaders and service providers.
  • Designs, develops, and presents culturally and age-appropriate training tools and outreach materials.
  • Acts as a resource on community safety and well-being issues for City staff, politicians, and external stakeholders.
  • Assists divisional and City staff, and partners in enhancing community development skills.
  • Provides management advice, project management, and policy development support.
  • Investigates and ensures timely, accurate, and effective responses to stakeholders.
  • Communicates and interprets relevant policies, programs, and initiatives to the community.
  • Maintains accurate program records and data, supporting monitoring and reporting.
  • Prepares briefing materials, reports, presentations, and other program documentation.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in community development and implementing responses to changing community needs.
  • Considerable experience working with vulnerable communities to address social inequities, manage trauma, and develop community mental health supports.
  • Experience in developing coalitions, inter-sectoral linkages, community advocacy, infrastructure, and capacity building.
  • Experience designing, developing, and delivering culturally appropriate training tools and outreach materials.
  • Experience assessing complex situations, applying risk-assessment approaches, and exercising professional judgment.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse organizations and stakeholders.
  • Experience maintaining and strengthening partnerships and resolving inter-organizational issues.
  • Knowledge of current models of crisis intervention/management.
  • Strong conflict resolution, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop consensus and recommend strategic solutions.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and political acuity.
  • Ability to work independently in complex and sensitive environments.
  • Ability to work effectively within equity-focused, trauma- and violence-informed, and culturally responsive frameworks.
  • Knowledge of privacy, confidentiality, consent, and information-sharing considerations.
  • Knowledge of community safety and wellbeing issues affecting Toronto residents.
  • Ability to travel to various locations.

Salary/Compensations

  • $89,337.00 - $132,880.00
