About the Role
We build the fastest GPU compiler in the world. Our core proof machinery is real and works, but needs refinement to handle more kernels. We are seeking an individual to define and build the mathematical foundations for our proof engine, collaborating with engineering to deploy these advancements at scale.
Responsibilities
- Own the proof engine end-to-end, ensuring kernels can be proven across all edge cases.
- Collaborate with the engineering team on building formal models of new hardware.
- Formalize numeric stability and factors influencing model convergence across diverse architectures.
- Research the predictability of training divergence during runs.
- Collaborate with the research team on post-training efforts concerning formal proofs and program verification.
- Formalize low-precision computation and its numerical stability.
- Collaborate with the engineering team on formally proving sandboxes safe.
Requirements
- A PhD in Mathematics is strongly recommended but not required; demonstrated proof and building capabilities are key.
- Possess good judgment regarding the necessity of full proofs versus cheaper guarantees.
- Pragmatic approach to tooling, understanding when SMT, interactive proofs, or custom decision procedures are appropriate.
- Comfortable owning open-ended problems and setting your own research agenda.
- Ability to explain proof strategies to engineers without a math background and to push back on corner-cutting.
