About the Role
Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures, assisting physicians and performing related patient care duties in an age-appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN).
Responsibilities
- Performs patient care related duties.
- Prepares and assists with the preparation of the operating room according to patient needs and age appropriateness.
- Anticipates the surgeon's needs and prepares supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Attends and participates in in-services and continuing education opportunities.
- Maintains correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Assists in the care and labeling of specimens.
- Participates in the proper handling of medications within the sterile field.
- Prepares O.R. equipment and supplies while performing patient care-related duties.
- Demonstrates effective time management skills.
- Cares for neonates, infants, toddlers, preschool age, school age, adolescents, and adults.
- Undergoes respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Requirements
- Completion of an educational program for surgical technologists, which may include operating room/surgical training from a branch of the U.S. military or the U.S. Public Health Service.
- Possession of CST-SUR - Cert-Cert Surgical TECH by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
- Possession of TSC-NCCT - Cert-TECH Surgery - Certified NCCT by the National Center for Competency Testing.
- 2 years' experience as a surgical technologist.
- Experience in two or more surgical specialties.
