About the Role
This role involves the management of major programs within the AOS portfolio, focusing on the definition, development, and deployment of satellite-based air traffic services and associated infrastructure. The primary focus will be on managing ESA Iris programmes, requiring collaboration with numerous partners across the satellite-based air traffic ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Planning, managing, and delivering large (up to $50M), multi-year service and infrastructure development programs.
- Managing a team of sub-project managers, both internal and external, to deliver according to schedule and budget.
- Working closely with senior-level end customers, reporting program progress, and addressing concerns.
- Managing program partners and suppliers to ensure coordinated program delivery.
- Providing technical leadership to facilitate pragmatic solutions trade-offs considering schedule, budget, risk, and quality.
- Distilling complex technical concepts into presentations for senior leadership to aid decision-making.
- Supporting the business development team with customer solutions.
- Engaging with regulatory bodies to support Viasat’s agenda.
- Performing frequent global international travel as required.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or equivalent.
- Technical proficiency in telecommunications technologies, with familiarity in IP-based mobile networking and satellite systems.
- Strong analytical capability for system engineering and technology trade-offs.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and manage relationships and trust.
- Ability to work in a complex, international matrix organization alongside third parties.
- Knowledge of PKI.
- Good knowledge of software development and engineering techniques.
- Experience managing large programs with multi-disciplinary, cross-site teams (internal and external) delivering complex solutions.
- Consistent track record of delivering programs within budget and schedule.
- Technical background in telecoms systems, ideally satellite communications, with a broad understanding of system elements.
- Experience in aerospace environments and understanding of the aviation regulatory environment and product development.
- Ability to lead technical teams in areas with limited personal experience.
- Experience navigating complex regulatory environments with multiple collaborators and conflicting priorities.
- Experience working at a senior management level and engaging with internal/external entities.
