About the Role

City St George’s, University of London is recruiting a Doctoral Candidate for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Industrial Doctoral Network HeatMinds project. This project focuses on industrial heat decarbonisation using innovative high-temperature heat pump technologies. The successful candidate will undertake a PhD project titled “Expanding the Operating Envelope of Positive Displacement Compressors”, contributing to the development of efficient and reliable heat pump systems for industrial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality doctoral research on positive displacement compressor technologies for industrial high-temperature heat pumps.
  • Develop and validate compressor models.
  • Analyze performance and optimization strategies.
  • Contribute to project deliverables and publications.
  • Present research at conferences.
  • Engage in dissemination and outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners across Europe.
  • Participate in network-wide training events.
  • Support the achievement of project milestones and objectives.

Requirements

  • Hold a first degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Thermofluids, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
  • Experience in modelling, simulation, or data analysis is desirable.
  • Possess strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to engage with international collaborators.
  • Ability to contribute positively to a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Must not have resided or carried out main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the United Kingdom for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the date of recruitment.
