About the Role
The Humanitarian Strategic Analyst – Asia-Pacific will provide context-specific strategic analysis to support humanitarian decision-makers at all levels of the organization, particularly during significant contextual changes. This role involves monitoring geopolitical events, identifying strategic issues, and engaging with stakeholders to gather and convey insights, contributing to risk assessments, preparedness plans, advocacy strategies, and policy-making. The analyst will deliver conflict-sensitive insights on major crises to anticipate escalation and ensure effective, principled responses.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and deliver context and foresight analysis to support humanitarian decision-makers.
- Develop scenarios and support scenario-based planning for response decision-making.
- Provide capacity building to Country Offices and partners on risk identification, monitoring, and scenario building.
- Support key internal processes with bespoke analysis, such as risk analysis for Emergency Preparedness Plans.
- Contribute to the integration of conflict-sensitive approaches in proposal writing, program implementation, and reporting.
- Collaborate to identify and address contextual information gaps, integrating data into strategic planning and operational responses.
- Contribute regional and national content to global reports, highlighting key trends and context-specific characteristics.
- Support humanitarian advocacy initiatives and strategies with contextual analysis on ongoing and emerging crises.
- Support the external representation of senior executives.
- Prepare and facilitate internal context-focused discussions.
- Contribute to the Inter-Agency Early Warning and Risk Analysis Group.
- Engage with external partners on specific contexts or themes.
Requirements
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Strong ability to question, synthesize, and present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Sound understanding of geopolitical dynamics at international, national, and sub-national levels.
- Expertise in supporting risk assessments and providing foresight analysis for strategic decision-making, particularly in conflict areas.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Ability to craft strategic recommendations for operational scenarios, preparedness efforts, and anticipatory strategies.
- Excellent skills in collaboration, networking, and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in delivering analytical products with short turnaround times.
- Significant professional experience in the humanitarian sector with a focus on crisis contexts and conflict-sensitive programming.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, organizational values, and humanitarian principles.
- Must have the right to work in the country where the role is based for the duration of employment.
