About the Role

The Nurse Aide II-Emergency Department position involves assisting nursing and medical staff in providing patient care, comfort, and safety under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role includes performing patient care procedures, maintaining patient areas, preparing equipment, and transporting patients.

Responsibilities

Observe patients and relay information and any changes to appropriate nursing personnel.
Report any patient reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a timely manner.
Assist patients with activities of daily living, adapting care to meet individual needs.
Provide direct nursing care, including vital signs, baths, Foley catheter care, and enemas.
Demonstrate proper turning and positioning of patients to maintain skin integrity and report alterations to the RN.
Distribute patient nourishment, assist with feeding, collect trays, and document intake.
Maintain and coordinate patient flow into examination areas.
Respond to and assist with emergencies, including performing CPR and moving patients under RN direction.
Implement measures to minimize patient discomfort within 5 to 15 minutes of request.
Correctly identify patients needing specimen collection/procedures 100% of the time.
Accurately collect and label all specimens according to established procedure.
Process specimens for transportation and analysis according to hospital and infection control procedures.
Properly remove patient clothing and complete valuables and property records.
Support patient care by ensuring patient care environment is properly stocked with supplies and functioning equipment.
Demonstrate and implement surgical and medical asepsis techniques.
Institute patient safety measures, such as using stretcher side-rails and assisting with ambulation/transfers/discharges.
Comply with restraint procedures and document compliance.
Provide for patient safety by placing and responding to patient call bells.
Utilize principles of safe disposal of needles, sharps, and contaminated wastes.
Assist with the prevention of infection transmission by adhering to universal precautions.
Inform patients about their stay in the Emergency Department to reduce misperceptions or unmet expectations.
Exhibit actions that support the comfort and safety of patients and their families.
Manifest professional decorum in all patient interactions.
Assume personal responsibility for each patient/staff interaction and provide service recovery interventions.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED.
BLS certification (AHA only).
First aid training.
De-escalation training on job.
EMT certificate or prior hospital/sub-acute experience or be a nursing student.
Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity.
Basic analytical skills to gather data, complete comparisons, interpret and report outcomes.
Excellent customer service and telephone skills.
Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
