Responsibilities
- Participate in all aspects of care of the Trauma and Surgery patient including physical exams and treatment of illness.
- Function in all areas of the pre/peri/post-operative environment including pre-admission, test review, intra-operative first assisting, PACU care, SICU care, step-down unit and other designated areas.
- Educate, consult and manage the Trauma or Surgery patient population and assist the patient/family, patient care team and physicians.
- Work collaboratively with the health care team including Trauma and Surgery physicians, anesthesiologists, other physicians, nurses, case management, physical and occupational therapy, and other relevant departments.
- Act as a clinical educator working with staff on Trauma or Surgery competencies, new procedures and advanced practice skills.
- Work with Trauma Surgeons to implement necessary medical aspects of care including discharges and pain management.
- Provide First Assist coverage of obstetric patients undergoing cesarean sections in the Labor & Delivery ORs.
- Participate in weekend and night call.
- Provide cross-campus coverage.
Requirements
- Physician Assistant: Graduate of an Accredited Physician’s Assistant Program.
- Physician Assistant: Current Physician’s Assistant Licensure in New York State.
- Physician Assistant: Successful completion and maintenance of National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Physician Assistant: Supervising Practice Agreement with the Medical Director of the APP and FA or the Trauma Program or their designee within the scope of practice of such supervising physician.
- Physician Assistant: Current BLS &/or ACLS & PALS Certifications required. ACLS can be accepted in lieu of BLS.
- Physician Assistant: ATLS Certification preferred - will be required within 1 year of hire.
- Physician Assistant: Current Opioid Prescriber Training Certificate.
- Physician Assistant: Current Infectious Certificate.
- Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program (Adult, Acute Care, Family).
- Nurse Practitioner: RNFA certification or successful completion of RNFA program with certification to be obtained within one year of hire.
- Nurse Practitioner: Current ANP licensure in New York State.
- Nurse Practitioner: Successful completion and maintenance of Board Certification as a practitioner from the ANCC or the AANP within one year of hire.
- Nurse Practitioner: Collaborative Practice Agreement with the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director of the Trauma Program or their designee within the scope of practice.
- Nurse Practitioner: Current BLS and/or ACLS & PALS Certifications required. ACLS can be accepted in lieu of BLS.
- Nurse Practitioner: ATLS Certification preferred – will be required within 1 year of hire.
- Nurse Practitioner: Active and unrestricted DEA Certificate.
- Stands, walks, sits intermittently throughout the day.
- Lifts, pushes, pulls light to heavy weights as required.
- Works primarily inside and may occasionally work outdoors.
- Frequent contact with various Garnet Health staff, sales representatives, employees and community members.
- May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
- Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
- Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and push over 75 lbs.
