About the Role
Eaton’s ES GEIS CHD division is seeking a Maintenance Plumber for the 3rd Shift at our Syracuse, NY location. This role involves replacing and piping in an industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan and perform all required operations to install, maintain, and repair water, steam, oil, air, gas, acid, sanitary waste, wastewater, sprinkler, pressure, and piping systems; pumps, motor sets, heating, and air conditioning equipment, and related apparatus in plant, office, and yard areas.
- Use hand tools and pipe fitting machinery to bend, thread, and cut pipe, using pipe economically.
- Select and assemble proper elbows, unions, couplings, and other fittings.
- Use a torch to sweat copper joints and solder as required.
- Fabricate brackets, braces, and hangers, and perform necessary operations to secure and ensure the permanence of installed equipment.
- Make soil pipe connections, vent traps properly, and perform all work in conformance with plumbing codes.
- Install high-pressure steam lines, regulators, valves, etc.
- Install the proper number of sprinkler heads according to pipe size; maintain and adjust dry and divisional valves, obtaining proper pressures for effective sprinkler system operation.
- Install and maintain underground fire supply, sanitary, and storm sewer lines.
- Replace motorized and regulative control equipment for steam and hot water, making minor repairs.
- Disassemble and repair copper coil unit heaters.
- Install and maintain new and rebuilt air conditioning units, including repair of reciprocating, absorption, and centrifugal units.
- Replace components such as compressors, condensers, motors, pumps, expansion and discharge valves, and piping systems.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, isolate problems, and repair instruments and control systems for heating, cooling, air, water, and wastewater systems.
- Troubleshoot air makeup system malfunctions.
- Regulate combustion equipment and maintain operational logs as required.
- Make all required connections to fill main propane, oil, acid, and similar material storage tanks from carload lots; operate valves and control flow.
- Read schematics, identify common symbols on drawings, and follow plumbing piping diagrams.
- Perform a variety of similar or associated duties as required or directed.
- Detect and report all defective materials or unusual conditions to proper supervision.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Operate a fork truck as required in the performance of job duties.
- Follow prescribed or standard safety regulations and administer 5 S’s.
- Apply broad trades or apprenticeship training and experience in improvising or making decisions where only general methods are available, requiring considerable initiative and ingenuity.
- Complete training as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- 3 years of plumbing/pipefitting experience in an industrial environment.
- Familiarity with plumbing and piping codes.
- Ability to lift, push, and carry items up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform prolonged standing for the shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions including frequent bending, twisting, and lifting to load/unload parts from machines and tubs.
- Occasional use of a respirator is required.
