About the Role
Provides integrated support to patients and physicians through a hands-on approach to total quality patient care. Coordinates across specialty and retail services to ensure seamless patient transitions and timely access to medications. Manages both retail and specialty pharmacy operations, ensuring safe and effective dispensing, patient counseling, and clinical support.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and dispenses medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
- Performs medication therapy management, including reviewing and monitoring medication regimens, advising clinicians on evidence-based therapy, and documenting interventions.
- Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing technicians' workflow, verifying pharmaceutical preparation and labeling, and verifying prescriptions.
- Handles care coordination, identifies and resolves insurance-related issues, and recognizes opportunities for financial assistance.
- Complies with state and federal drug laws, maintains controlled substance records, removes outdated drugs, and supervises support personnel.
- Ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements, including 340B program compliance, specialty pharmacy accreditation, and medication safety protocols.
- Makes referrals to other health professionals when necessary.
- Develops knowledge by participating in education programs and training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and healthcare professionals.
- Manages, organizes, and updates relevant data using database applications.
- Applies observations and recommendations to operational issues, aiming to increase productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
- Identifies trends, resolves problems, recommends improvements, and implements change.
- Actively participates in process improvement initiatives.
- Protects organizational value by maintaining confidentiality.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- Willing to do whatever is necessary for the betterment of the Company.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Applicant must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or BS in Pharmacy.
- Must be a licensed Pharmacist in the applicable state.
- Required 1+ years of experience in a retail or specialty dispensing setting.
- Preferred 5+ years of experience in a retail or specialty dispensing setting.
