About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, Platform at Payabli, you'll own the infrastructure and developer experience that every engineer at the company builds on top of. You will define the vision for how we build, test, deploy, and operate our platform on AWS, then execute against it. You will be the person who makes every other engineer faster, safer, and more productive by managing CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, local development, and Cloud/Agent development environments.
Responsibilities
- Own the infrastructure. Design, build, and operate Payabli's cloud infrastructure, making architectural decisions around networking, compute, storage, and security.
- Build the deployment backbone. Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines end-to-end, designing release processes that enable fast, safe, and repeatable deployments.
- Make local development exceptional. Own the local development experience to ensure it mirrors production closely.
- Enable AI-assisted development. Build environments for leveraging AI coding agents and assistants safely and effectively within PCI-compliant infrastructure.
- Define and drive the platform roadmap. Assess current state, define future state, and build plans to achieve it, partnering with engineering leadership on infrastructure investments.
- Harden everything. Ensure infrastructure posture keeps pace with PCI-DSS scoping, network segmentation, secrets management, access controls, and audit trail requirements.
- Instrument and observe. Build the monitoring, alerting, and observability stack for real-time system health visibility.
- Multiply the team. Document patterns, write runbooks, and establish infrastructure standards to enhance engineering self-sufficiency.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including building and operating production AWS environments at scale.
- Deep AWS expertise, including native understanding of services like ECS/EKS, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, and CloudFormation/CDK/Terraform.
- Strong CI/CD experience, including designing and maintaining trusted deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar).
- Infrastructure-as-code fluency, with experience defining, versioning, reviewing, and deploying infrastructure declaratively.
- Security-minded approach, understanding network segmentation, least-privilege access, secrets management, and encryption.
- Proactive and opinionated approach to identifying and solving infrastructure problems.
- Strong communication skills, able to translate infrastructure decisions into business impact and explain complex systems clearly.
