About the Role
Residents provide competent and compassionate patient care, matching their level of advancement and competence, while working effectively as a member of the health care team. Professional demeanor and conduct are expected at all times in patient care and communication.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care matching individual provider's level of advancement and competence.
- Work effectively as a member of the health care team.
- Maintain the highest level of professional demeanor and conduct.
- Provide competent and compassionate patient care under the supervision of attending physicians.
- Perform initial and ongoing assessment of patient’s medical, physical, and psycho social status.
- Perform history and physical examinations.
- Develop assessment and treatment plans.
- Perform rounds.
- Record progress notes.
- Order tests, examinations, medications, and therapies.
- Interpret results of tests.
- Arrange for discharge and after care.
- Write or dictate admission notes, progress notes, procedure notes, and discharge summaries.
- Provide patient education and counseling on health status, test results, disease processes, and discharge planning.
- Perform procedures.
- Assist in surgery.
- Attend didactic sessions.
- Recognize when transitioning patient care to another qualified and rested provider is in the best interest of the patient.
- Communicate effectively with team members during the hand-over process.
- Satisfy all requirements by accrediting body as applicable.
Requirements
- Completion of Medical/Professional School
- BLS/ACLS/ATLS/PALS as required by specialty
- For Podiatry: Certification in Administration of Topical Diagnostic Pharmaceuticals (DPAS) as required by their specialty.
- For Podiatry: Certification in Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) as required by their specialty.
- For Podiatry: Current New York State Limited Residency Permit (LRP).
- Moderate clinical roles require patient facing duties including continual movement, standing, walking, lifting 20–50 lbs., pushing and pulling medical equipment, and assisting with patient positioning.
- Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments.
- High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns.
- Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus.
- Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation.
- TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
- Consideration for accommodations for any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate.
