About the Role
The Whitney’s Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for rising Juniors and above, including Graduate students, enrolled in an accredited academic program. This internship is onsite and in-person, with interns committing between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 176 hours. Interns are assigned to a specific department for the duration of the internship. The application window for the Spring 2027 Ostrover Family Academic Internship is open through November 9, with all candidates considered on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities
- Conducting research and providing administrative support for forthcoming exhibitions related to American art from 1900–1960
- Providing research and administrative support for permanent collection stewardship, gifts and acquisitions
- Assisting with conducting archival and provenance research
- Assisting in preparing materials for the archives
- Assisting with regular exhibition proposals, preparing presentations, and other administrative tasks that relate more broadly to the prewar department
Requirements
- Students currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible
- Previous museum experience is not required
Skills
- Demonstrated interest in art history; knowledge of and interest in American art from 1900–1960 is preferred
- Previous research experience required; archival research experience is highly preferred
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to multitask
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students of all disciplines are encouraged to apply
